Ministries
Being Served
At Glen Ellyn Bible Church the programs are always planned with people in mind. Some of the programs are designed for the entire church family. Many are age-based. A few target specific needs. All are designed to nurture a greater love for Christ. While you will find a wide variety of excellent programming, we realize that much of what happens in our church is not planned.
The Spirit of God is at work in us, and that work often takes place while people are praying together or sharing over coffee or reflecting on a previous sermon. Take a look at what is happening at our church. We believe you'll find something just for you.
Serving
If you are interested in serving in any of our ministries, we have listed the spiritual gifts that may be pertinent to each ministry. Knowing your spiritual gifts will help you understand how you can best serve the body of Christ.
Ministry Philosophy
- Elder/staff led and lay-owned ministry
Empowering the laity to serve in the church
Fewer "pastors" and many "directors" in ministry
- Gift-based service
Educating people about their spiritual gifts and ministry needs
Serving in ways and places that are fruitful and fulfilling
Avoiding service that is simply "office and title" based
- Willing to take risks (i.e. freedom to fail)
Attempting great things for God
Not feeding evangelical "sacred cows"
Building an environment of safety for people
- Sound in the basics of church life
Doing the core things well
Adding additional programming only as we are able to succeed
Conservative in creed, liberal in learning style, radical in expectations
- In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in everything, charity
Majoring on the majors
Minoring on the minors
Emphasizing trust in others and confidence in the Spirit to be at work

Leadership Philosophy
- We set aside our own egos to live our lives and lead the church with the posture of a servant.
- We support other ministries in addition to our own, considering the good of the entire body of Christ.
- We keep the congregation informed, openly communicating what Jesus has placed on our hearts for His church.
- We operate in honesty, integrity and with accountability.
- We empower and equip the congregation to share in the responsibilities of ministry.
- We are open and supportive to new ideas, creating an environment where people can grow in faith, hope and love.
- We lead joyfully and optimistically, viewing challenges as opportunities for spiritual growth.
- We recognize the responsibility of our positions and are good stewards of our offices and ministries.
- We recognize and respect your life and ministry apart from the programs of the church, and keep activities and tasks to what is absolutely necessary.
- We keep our focus on the issues emphasized in the New Testament.
- We lead our ministries from our hearts' desire to obey Jesus, never being satisfied with superficial outward obedience to rules.
- We challenge God's people to remain teachable to continue growing in a life of grace and truth.
