Elders
GEBC is led by a board of eight lay elders (elected by the congregation, being eligible for four consecutive, one-year terms) and the senior pastor (who also serves as an elder), who meet about two times per month.
Candidates for the office of elder are nominated by a nominating team composed of two elders and five members of the church at large. The candidates, as well as the existing elders, are confirmed by the entire congregation in May for the coming year of service.

Kelly Brady, Senior Pastor Kelly joined the staff of Glen Ellyn Bible Church in 1994 as the Junior High Director. During his tenure, he has overseen children's, youth and family ministries at one time or another. In May 2004, Kelly became the senior pastor, with his primary responsibilities being preaching, leading the staff and cultivating and casting vision. A graduate of Wheaton College, he holds masters degrees in Educational Ministries and Biblical Theology, and he has completed all of his course work in a doctoral program at Trinity International University in Deerfield. He has self-published two books in a trilogy. The first, Pocket Theology, is designed as a quick reference guide to theological issues. The second, Pocket Discipleship, is an explanation of GEBC's Disciple-Making Ministry. The final book in the trilogy will be Pocket Apologetics. His passion is to see people grow in their understanding and commitment to Christ. Married in 1991, Kelly and Sherri have three children. |

I met my wife, Kandy, in the college-age youth group at Wheaton Bible Church. She waved Chicago Bears’ tickets in front of me for our first date…how could I turn down a chance to see Walter Payton! This year we will be celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary. Our godson, Kevin, his wife, Melissa, and their daughter, Ceci, live in Olathe, Kansas. Kevin is a fireman and Melissa teaches high school photography. Kandy and I both share a passion of ministry to high school and college-age students. We have seen many kids who have had no interest in church or God, come to know Christ and serve Him wholeheartedly. Some of those same kids are now serving in full-time missions. It has taught us to never give up on a person, no matter how far they are from the Lord. What excites me most about being an elder is the opportunity to encourage and help people grow closer to Christ. I like to teach in small groups and mentor other men one-on-one. Praying with and for one another is important to me. I work at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, an Advocate healthcare hospital. My job, as a physician liaison, is to build loyal relationships between physicians on staff and the hospital administration. Some of my hobbies include: cartooning, building/racing cardboard boats and spending summer vacations in northern Michigan. |

My wife Janille and I have been married for 29 years. We wandered into GEBC as newlyweds and never left. We now have three adult children. Our daughter Kristy is a youth pastor in Athens, GA. Our daughter Kristin is a professional soccer player in Norway. Our son Kristopher and his wife Emily live locally and are part of the FCCC church plant. The area of ministry that excites me most is seeing lives changed by Jesus. It is a joy to see the power of Christ as He brings the lost to salvation, softens hardened hearts and ignites renewed passion in those whose faith has grown cold. My favorite place to be a part of this work is in the world of sports, a place where it seems that spiritual questions can quickly rise to the surface. Vocationally, I am primarily a soccer coach and trainer, serving as the head girls’ coach at Glenbard South High School, the goalkeeper trainer for the Wheaton College Men’s Team and working with Lealta FC which is my own developmental club for girls. I also work on the maintenance staff of Wheaton Christian Grammar School. Not surprisingly, my favorite pastime is playing soccer or futsal. When I’m not out on a field or in a gym, I am an avid video game player. |

As the husband to the “real” Dr. Larson for 30 years, 27 of them at GEBC, I’ve been able to see Beth serve many in our body as their beloved physician. Together with Beth, we’ve seen GEBC, in turn, minister to two sons, now 27 and 25, who’ve spent their entire lives at GEBC being cared for in the nursery, growing up through children’s and youth ministries and now being launched into their own lives of service, both having been supported in missionary projects through GEBC. Two granddaughters (25 months and 11 months) are now completing the cycle, being cared for in the nursery after having come back with their parents from two and a half years of service at El Camino Academy in Colombia. Along with my family, I’ve been fortunate to serve GEBC in my own ways through a variety of different ministries. I’ve served as a deacon and an elder, taught adult Sunday School, served in AWANA, coached softball, sung in the choir and worship teams, run sound, and even served for a time as our worship leader. I play the role of GEBC’s utility infielder, even having taken a few turns preaching when Kelly and the rest of the staff are away. When I’m not at GEBC, I serve as one of the deans at Wheaton College, play with my grandchildren and try to play golf (badly). |

I met my wife, Susan, at Gordon College and we've been happily married for the last 19 years. We have been at GEBC for 20 years. We are excited to be a part of a church where Jesus Christ leads, our God is praised, the Bible is taught and we are encouraged weekly in prayer and fellowship. This church and the body of believers that we meet with each have been core to our family's growth and blessings all these years. Because of these blessings to us, we are passionate to serve and share Christ's love to others. I lead a Men's small group Bible study and we lead socials and activities for the young married couples at GEBC. We enjoy seeing people grow in their understanding of God's word and Christ's love, especially as they build community and fellowship. I am also father of Emiko and Marshall, who enjoy GEBC's senior high and junior high youth groups, respectively. I work as an IT Systems Administrator for Sun Chemical Corporation. In my free time, I enjoy traveling, sports, being with my family and eating meat! |

I have been married to my wonderful wife, Cathy, for 32 years and we have three fantastic children and one perfect granddaughter (we’re not biased at all!). Kate, our oldest daughter, and our son-in-law, Jordan, live in Seattle. They have a 19-month-old daughter, Eliana. I can assure you that being grandparents is exceeding our wildest expectations. Our second daughter, Callie, just recently married and she and her husband, Carlos, live in Lincoln Square in Chicago. Our son Rob is currently a sophomore at Taylor University. Cathy and I have been attending GEBC since we moved to the Chicago area from Texas in 1991. I have been involved in Children’s and Junior High ministries, primarily teaching Sunday school as our kids moved through the school years. I have loved to meet people and have been involved in the usher ministry for almost all the years that I have been at GEBC. Cathy and I worked together in Compassion Ministry (Bridge program) for a number of years. I have also been involved in financial counseling to those in our congregation who are struggling financially. I have been serving as an Elder for the past three years. The thing I enjoy most about being an Elder is the opportunity to invest in the lives of people who may be struggling emotionally, spiritually or financially. Being an Elder provides me the opportunity to see needs and, with God’s help, respond to them. God is increasingly giving me the time and opportunity to do more of that for which I am so grateful. I am also very excited to be a part of discerning God’s plan for how GEBC is to move forward in growing His kingdom and making disciples. I am recently retired, having spent approximately 30 years as a management consultant, primarily with Deloitte Consulting. I have a passion to play golf, although I never meet my expectations. I also have a passion for following college football, especially my beloved Texas Longhorns. And I am now also passionate about going to Seattle to visit my granddaughter Eliana as often as possible. |

I have been married to Merri Jo for almost 32 years. We have two sons, Matt and Chris. Matt and his wife, Sarah, live in Downers Grove and are very actively involved at the FCCC church plant, GEBC’s daughter church. Chris and his wife, Jordan, live in Warrenville with their 18-month-old son, Brady, who is the joy of our lives! Chris and Jordan are GEBC members. My passion, which is shared by my wife, is for compassion ministries and, in particular, Bridge Communities. We are part of a 3-person mentoring team that meets each week with our Bridge client throughout the 2-year program. We are currently with our fourth client. I lead a table for Men’s Fraternity, volunteer in Nursery 2, volunteer for PADS, and I even tried singing in the Men’s Choir for Father’s Day (yes, I was the terrible sound you heard)! I feel that being an elder carries a great responsibility and should be done in obedience to the Lord’s leading. I find the elders’ study of theology related to our Statement of Faith has been most enjoyable and profitable for me personally. I see one of GEBC’s biggest challenges will be to grow and serve the community despite being land-locked. I also believe our continued focus on making disciples, through programs such as ALPHA and Equipping programs, is key to our spiritual growth and development as a body of believers. I currently work at Navistar in Warrenville, where I have been employed for 34 years in various positions in accounting and information technology. I am a third-generation employee and my sons are also employed there as the fourth generation. I enjoy golfing (if I can take the liberty to call what I do golfing), fishing, working in the yard and spending time with our grandson, Brady. |

My wife, Maggie, and I have been married 32 years. We have three children: Brendan 29, Jonathan 27, and Jessica 26. I have served the Lord primarily in the area of evangelism—having the opportunity to speak at numerous venues both Christian and secular. Those opportunities are presented primarily because I played 12 years in the NFL (10 with the Chicago Bears) and, to a lesser extent, because I currently serve as an Illinois Supreme Court Justice. Although I have been criticized on occasion for being so vocal regarding my faith, I am grateful that God has given me the grace to not be ashamed of the gospel. I am both humbled and honored to serve as an elder at GEBC. I was asking the Lord to open up an opportunity to utilize my gifts at the local church level when I was approached to consider serving as an elder. In my short time in this role, I have especially been touched by the privilege to pray with and for members of our congregation. I have an interest in GEBC growing in the areas of evangelism and compassion ministry. I look forward to the days ahead as we grapple with how we can reach more for Christ and disciple those we reach. I have been blessed with both a wife and children that know and love the Lord and I am happiest when we are together. Although golf doesn't always make me happy, I enjoy playing golf.

I have served as an elder at GEBC for over a decade and enjoy the challenges that come with the leadership responsibility. I have also been involved in GEBC’s compassion ministries, serving as a mentor in Bridge Communities and volunteering for PADS. I have also spent time mentoring/counseling individuals and married couples going through difficulties over the past few years. I am most excited to follow God’s leading in discovering “what’s next for GEBC”. Now that GEBC has successfully planted a new church, I believe that God has new challenges/opportunities in store for the church. Professionally, I have spent my career in the financial services industry and formed Aspen Equity Partners in 2008. I have been married to Karen for 26 years and we have two teenage children. When not serving in the church, I enjoy running, having completed 13 marathons and ultra-marathons, and anything that involves the mountains in Colorado. |
